PUBLIC PEDAGOGY: MINING THE MUSEUM

- May 26 -

This is the tied up pony who inspired my exploding museum. The photo was taken with my camera-phone. I don’t remember exactly when I first saw this pony but it was a different one before and that one I probably saw in 2008. Pretty cool.

Soooo, this is my exploding museum…already done. I blushed when I found this by searching Portland ponies and checked out the whole project. I’m embarrassed that I thought up this idea by seeing my first tied up pony and it’s already done and I didn’t know about it. That said, I’m joining their exploding museum and going to put out my own pony. The Horse Project has a great website with photos of ponies around Portland and instructions on making a secure cable leash to tie your pony up. I encourage you all to experience their efforts and FIND A PONY NEAR YOU! I will definitely post about when I get my pony up and about my experiences with The Horse Project.  I hope to be able to include a laminated info card to my pony(ies) with the web addresses to the class tumblr and The Horse Project website. Thanks to those of you who clued me in.

In with the New, In With the Old, Old in the New

Overall my exploding museum piece was to connect the atmosphere of people and the buildings. When I was walking through the Pearl District and Down Town, there was an incredible assortment of people with different backgrounds, styles, and age. The Pearl District exemplifies this with its unique building structures. There is a style that connects the past generations with the new generations. Both seem to have a significant effect on one another. On one hand, the new generation likes to hold onto past things, within their roots… Contemporary buildings designed to show a classic style. On the other hand the older generation is being affected by the new generation to get into style, get modernized, meanwhile being capable to preserve their past. The warehouses are preserved, in a way that can efficiently utilize the space and conform to the unique atmosphere that is… Portland.
This is all best seen on the first thursday of every month in my opinion, which is why I connected it with my paper as you will see below.
Below are some of my photos I took, and my written piece.

The last buildings I wanted to show were a couple newer buildings but had some piece to it that showed age. In this photo is a complex with an advertisement painted on the side of the building.
